An egg mass laid by a female wood frog (Lithobates sylvaticus). Every spring, temporary, closed-canopy ponds are filled with wood frogs. The egg jelly is usually clear, but the tannins in the water released by decomposing leaf litter had stained the water, which was taken up by the egg mass.
